Last week's three releases met with near-apocalyptic audience response, marking a disastrous end to a month which saw three big hits - 'Gabbar Is Back', 'Piku' and 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns'.
Arshad Warsi and Jackky Bhagnani-starrer 'Welcome To Karachi' had a dull opening followed by an equally dull weekend (total Rs 5.50 crore). 'Ishqedarriyaan' and 'P Se PM Tak', on the other hand, struggled to find takers.
Says trade expert Amod Mehra, "All three films bombed at the box office. Welcome To Karachi did some business, which isn't enough to be termed as average. The other two films could not collect even respectable figures."
On the brighter side, 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' (TWMR) continues to see a footfall rush. Starring Kangana Ranaut in a double role, the film has collected Rs 98.37 crore so far and set a few collection records as well - highest weekend, biggest Monday and best cumulative weekdays.
It has already crossed the Rs 100-crore mark worldwide. A trade source says, "This year, only three other films, 'Baby', 'Gabbar Is Back' and 'Piku' have managed to break into the Rs 100-crore league worldwide. But TWMR has been the fastest to do so."
