Bollywood music composer and singer Aadesh Shrivastava, who was battling with cancer, passed away in Mumbai on Saturday.

Sources from music industry confirmed that his condition started escalating late night and rumors of his death started floating from 10 pm. While the close friends and relatives confirmed with mid-day that he is critical but still battling with the disease, within two hours, the authorities from the hospital confirmed about his death. "Mr Aadesh Shrivastava 51-years-old expired at 12.30 am on September 5, 2015 in Kokilaben Hospital," said Dr Ram Narain, Executive Director, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital through an sms.

His brother-in-law and music composer Lalit Pandit, from the Jatin-Lalit duo, confirmed the news to IANS over a text message.

"Aadesh passed away at 12.30 am," the message read.

His cancer relapsed for the third time and he was in critical condition for over 40 days. Shrivastava breathed his last a day after his birthday.

Last week, the doctors had stopped the chemotherapy on Shrivastava since the music veteran wasn't responding to the treatment. The family had then approached Dr Yeshi Dhonden, personal physician to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and famous cancer treating monk from Dharmashala for medical assistance. However his condition deteriorated before Dhonden could start the treatment.

He was married to actress and playback singer Vijayata Pandit. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Lalit had earlier told IANS that despite doctors trying their best to help Shrivastava overcome his illness, the treatment remained ineffective on him. Lalit had also noted that they need everyone's prayers.

As the news of his illness surfaced in the media, members of film fraternity like Lata Mangeshkar and A. R. Rahman expressed shock and hope for healthy recovery while others like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan met him at the hospital.

Shrivastava composed music for films like 'Chalte Chalte', 'Baabul', 'Baghban', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' and 'Raajneeti'.
