Helen is the uncrowned queen of the cabaret in Indian cinema. Now pushing 60, the sensuous dancing diva who leads a reclusive life as Mrs Salim Khan, will be seen making a rare television appearance on Sony's Boogie Woogie this Friday.
Not only does Helen serve as star-judge on the show, she even performs a jig at the end of it.
Sony Entertainment is understandably thrilled to get the undisputable queen of the shimmy on their show.
Says the Channel's Head,On-Air Programming Anupama Mandloi. "It was quite our luck that after Urmila Matondkar we got the legendary Helen. She had a great time with the co-hosts Javed and Naved Jaffrey.
The show and its young contestants seemed to bring out the fun side of the great danseuse. On the episode Helen takes great pains to explain the evolution of the cabaret in Hindi cinema"
This is Helen's first appearance on tv. Earlier another cabaret star Bindu had appeared on Boogie Woogie.
The young female contestants will be seen having a great time jiving to some of Helen's most popular songs including Piya to ab to aaja, Mehbooba o mehbooba and Aa jaan-e-jaan.
"And to top it all, Helen herself jives to her perennial favourite Yeh mera dil pyar ka diwana at the end of the show," says Anupama Mandloi.
Boogie Woogie intends to host a series of celebrity specials in the coming weeks before allowing the primary focus of interest, the young contestants, to boogie-battle to the top."
