The prolific writer-filmmaker, cinaeste and industry spokesperson Amit Khanna who was once closely associated with Dev Anand has an unlikely fan. And it's Karan Johar.
Reveals Karan, "Both my titles for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and now Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna are taken from lyrics written by Amit Khanna.
The former was a
phrase out of the song Uthe sab ke qadam in the film Baaton Baaton Mein while Kabhi alvidaa na kehna was a line from Amit Khanna's song Chalte chalte mere yeh geet
yaad rakhna in the film Chalte Chalte."
Interestingly Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge which was the title of Karan's pal Aditya's mega-moneyspinner was also a popular line from chartbuster from the film Chor
Machaye Shor.
Recalls Karan, "We went through hell trying to get a title song. Jatin-Lalit composed a title song for Adi's DDLJ they came up with several tunes.
The tune that was
finally selected as DDLJ's title track finally surfaced in the Salman-starrer Jab Pyar Kissise Hota Hai as Hum tumko bhagakar le jayenge.
There was finally no title
song in DDLJ. I guess I was luckier. I was able to get title songs for both my films although they were part of very successful songs in the past."
Karan is very proud of the music in KANK. "Anyone who has ever been lost in love will love the tracks specially the title track and Mitwa."
