How does it feel to endorse classic cinema?
I'm thrilled to represent the channel. I have grown up eating, breathing and living films. I will be able to introduce my generation to the cinema of yesteryear. There is a certain way of remembering life through movies and the relevance of classic cinema is tremendous in our day-to-day lives. I appreciate the way clasics have shaped new-age cinema and people should watch these masterpieces to experience the opulence.
How much have these films inspired you?
You are the by-product of the movies you watch. While filming 'Gunday', we realised that all of us are fans of the 70s. The era's acting and style inspired it. Those legendary decades will always be a reference point. Classics have defined my choices as a viewer and as an actor.
Which is your favourite decade of Hindi cinema?
I look back fondly to the 80s. I started watching films at a young age, when Subhash Ghai was in his element and used to work a lot with Anil chachu (Kapoor). From 'Meri Jung', 'Ram Lakhan' to Karma and Hero - all these films defined Hindi cinema.
Do you think the current crop of actors are unaware about Indian classics?
Many actors from today's generation haven't seen iconic films but that doesn't make one better or worse. However, the amazing part is that people might not watch them but they definitely know of them.
