However, Kahaani 2 hasn't managed to live up to the expectations. Most people have found the second half of film predictable. What was touted as a taut thriller with some gritty tale turned out to be stale drama when compared to its prequel Kahaani.
It is visibly clear in its first-weekend collection. On the other hand, Gauri Shinde's Dear Zindagi is ruling the box office in its second week straight. Dear Zindagi stars Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan. Alia Bhatt's portrayal of a modern vulnerable woman is getting huge praise from all corners. There were marked differences in both films' opening weekend collection. While Kahaani 2 managed to collect Rs 16.97 crores, Dear Zindagi collected Rs 32.50 crores in its opening weekend.
Trade Analyst took to Twitter and shared, " #Kahaani2 had further 19.69% growth on Sun... Fri 4.25 cr, Sat 5.79 cr, Sun 6.93 cr. Total: ₹ 16.97 cr [1235 screens]. India biz." Taran also shared, " #DearZindagi is nearing ₹ 60 cr mark... [Week 2] Fri 2.25 cr, Sat 3.50 cr, Sun 4.35 cr. Weekend 2: ₹ 10.10 cr. Total: ₹ 57.10 cr. India biz." While Kahaani 2 collected Rs 6.93 on its third day, Dear Zindagi collected Rs 4.35 on its tenth day. There is not much difference. Dear Zindagi is still getting a lot of appreciation from the audience.
Dear Zindagi is doing well amongst multiplex audiences. It had a limited release over 1235 screens. So could it be the reason behind Kahaan' 2's difficulties in attracting an audience to theatres?
Has DZ caused a huge dent in Kahaani 2's collections? For that, we have to wait and see. Kahaani 2 will have to share theatre screens with next weekend release Befikre starring Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor.
