Kunal Kapoor received iconic status after starring in the critically acclaimed commercial success last year, Rang De Basanti. The extremely choosy Kapoor hunk (he has done just three films in three years) will now be seen in Milan Luthria's, Hattrick where he plays a great role (in his own words).

"I play the character of an immature, stubborn boy who has never had to face any responsibilities in life. The story starts basically when he has to face responsibilities and then he manages to come to terms with them and accepts them", explains Kunal.

The actor took the project up as he found it to be very unique. "We have not tried to make it a comedy and this is the specialty of the film. We have just tried to tell a story but its base is funny and light hearted. We all have done our work seriously without any attempt to do comedy", he asserts.

The theme of the film seems to be cricket centric. So has it been timed so as to cash in on the upcoming World Cup?

"Yes, in a way. But this movie is not based on cricket but the back drop is cricket. It is the story of the lives of the five characters during the World Cup cricket", says the actor.

But what if the World Cup fever affects the film in a negative way? "Hopefully not.... We are hopeful that people watch the World Cup as well as our movie", he says.

The name Hattrick sounds very interesting and actually is quite significant to the plot. "Yes actually all the characters lose their wicket and then how they try to redeem it during the course of the movie is the basic plot of the story", reveals Kunal.

Hattrick also boasts of an interesting star cast with actors like Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal, Danny Denzongpa and of course heroine Rimi Sen playing interesting characters.

"It was a great experience. They are such fine actors. Rimi and I had the most work together and it was very nice working with her. She is a very lovely, honest, outright person and it is very rarely that we come across people like that. She has been very interesting", he gushes.

Looking at the promos it seems that Rimi is more in love than Kunal. So what is the twist in the story? "Well for that you will have to watch the movie. If I tell you now then you will not enjoy it", he winks.

Kunal claims director Milan Luthria too is in a league of his own. "I know Milan ji for a long time. So it has been a comfortable experience to begin with", he says.

The music of the film has been ear catching too. Ask him about it and he says proudly, "Yes, the music is very special. When you think of a movie starring Nanaji, Paresh, Danny and myself with a name such as Hattrick you would not imagine that its music could be so interesting.

You would think that the music is so so but Pritam has done a damn good job and every song is very good. It so happens that sometimes I listen to one track for a week and another for the next week".

And what will he have to say to the audience? Does he expect yet another big hit after RDB? "Well I want to say that everybody says their film is something different, but I can claim that this film is really different. The kind of story that we have tried to portray and the way we have done it is very different. So if you wish to watch something different, light-hearted and fun come and watch our movie', he retorts.

Regardless of the name of the film being Hattrick, Kunal says he has always been interested in cricket. "Well who is not interested in cricket? Even I'm interested in cricket and when given a chance, I even watch the highlights two to three times.

Well fortunately that I'm working, I'm unfortunate that I have not been able to watch cricket. But I'm surely going to catch the World Cup", he signs off hoping that the audiences will love Hattrick as much as they love cricket and the way they loved him in RDB. - Sneha Hazarika (SAMPURN)
