Soha Ali Khan sibling of Saif Ali Khan and daughter of Sharmila Tagore and Nawab Pataudi will be seen in Chaurahen. She is pretty satisfied with her role and wants to continue doing different type of roles. Recently we caught up with Soha and talked at length about her career, parents and interests. Here is the excerpt.

Q: This is a totally different film you are doing after Rang De Basanti. Tell us something about it.
A: This is a very beautiful film. It has three different stories. My story is set in Bombay and Ankur Khanna is cast opposite me.

It is an intimate story between the young couple living and working in Bombay, the challenges or chaurahen that comes in their relationship like it always happens in all relationships. A time comes when one has to take a decision in life.

My character Ira loves life and looks ahead, while Ankur's character Farookh is more melancholic and looks behind. Because of this, they face challenges in life. The story is about how the deal with it and where their relationship goes in the end.

Q: When did you sign the film?
A: I had signed the film two years back, but it was shot last year and now it is ready to be released.

Q: How was it working with Rajshree?
A: It was a lovely experience. She has also become a friend of mine now. But she a very talented director and she has a lot of experience. Though this is her first commercial movie, she has won a lot of awards, made a lot of short films and studied at AFI and NYU.

She has sensitivity also as a human being which I appreciate. I have been very lucky to work with her. I saw her short films which appealed to me and I wanted to work with her. I would like to work with her again. It has been a wonderful experience.

Q: What appealed to you in the movie?
A: The script essentially appealed to me. The character, the fact that it was a very real character and that I related to her also interested me.

The challenge was that when you strip the film of all the glamour and the accessories, the song and dance and the exotic locations and the big personalities, it essentially becomes about playing that role and about your ability to perform. So I wanted to do a role which was just about performance.

Q: What kind of roles are you interested in doing?
A: I would like to do all kinds of roles. Like the ones I have done in Antarmahal, Rang De Basanti or Chaurahen. I would also like to do a glamorous role like I have done in 'Khoya Khoya Chand'.

The idea as an actor is to constantly do different things to constantly challenge yourself. This is how you will get to know yourself and your work better.

Q: Tell us more about your role in Sudhir Mishra's Khoya Khoya Chand'.
A: In 'Khoya Khoya Chand' I'm opposite Shiney Ahuja. Shiney plays a star in the movie and I am playing the role of a 1950s' heroine.

Q: What would be your dream role like?
A: I have no dream role. Honestly, the idea is to constantly do different kinds of role. I think in Khoya Khoya Chand the role is a kind of a dream role because I have got to do so many different things from dancing to horse-riding to sword fighting. That's been a dream role of a sort.

Q: What about 'Meridian'?
A: Meridian is also interesting. It has an interesting script..... That's not releasing yet. We will have time to talk about that.

Q: You are working with Zeenat Aman in this film. How was it working with her?
A: I actually don't share screen time with her. But I have seen a number of her films and really liked her work. Her presence adds a magical element to the film. I'm very happy about that, but also unfortunate that I could not work with her.

Q: How close are you to your mother? What role does she play in you career?
A: My mother was a very famous actress in her times and I like her work a lot. She is very close to me. Her advice is always available for me; all I have to do is give her a call. She has got the opportunity to work with good directors and do a variety of roles.

I will be happy if I can only come close to her abilities. Her advice is very important to me and she does influence me the way other people don't just because she I more real to me. She is not only Sharmila Tagore, but she is also my mother.

Q: What about your father? Does he give advice to you?
A: I'm very close to my father. He has never seen a Hindi film and will never see one. We talk about things other than Hindi films. We talk about cricket, about history, we read books, and we share our respective interests.

Q: Will you watch the ICC Cricket World Cup?
A: Of course. I think people who aren't fond of cricket will also watch the world cup.

Q: Besides India, which team will you support?
A: Besides India? I don't know. I have not thought of that. I generally tend to support the underdogs. So anyone who is into Australia!

Q: Who is your favorite player in the Indian cricket team?
A: In the Indian team, Tendulkar is the most entertaining to watch, but unfortunately we pin all our hopes on him and he has an ability to break a million hearts in a single stroke. I like players like Dravid also. He is more dependable and plays a solid game.

Q: Would you be seen working with Saif?
A: Well I have got an opportunity to do an advertisement with him. I would definitely like to do a film with him. If we both have something meaningful to do with it, we will work together. - (SAMPURN)
