One of the reasons may have been Suri's recent success 'Malang'. Fans fell in love with the on-screen Chemistry of Disha and Aditya. On being asked why he signed Disha for another high on action film, he said, " Disha is the first heroine who walked up to me and said, 'I want to do more action, beat up people, perform stunts... kick some butt. Just the way boys do it in your films. I want to be the hero' That's when I asked her if she would do the Ek Villain sequel and she was game."
Mohit Suri had revealed in an interview with PTI that the plot of the film requires two leading ladies. Meanwhile, the search for the second actress is still on, Disha Patani has been signed. Interestingly, Disha will be paired opposite John instead of Aditya. The makers are trying to give the film a different twist by pairing them together, considering that she was opposite Aditya in 'Malang'. Disha will be seen doing some heavy-duty stunts as well.
The sequel, which is yet to finalize it's cast, will have a fresh ensemble. However, the script has been finalized. The original 'Ek Villain' was a 2014 action-packed revenge story where a former convict avenges his wife's murder at the hands of a sadistic serial killer. The film starred Siddharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor, and Riteish Deshmukh, and grossed almost 170 crores at the box office. The box office collection is why Suri took so long to write a script that he was satisfied with. Mohit told PTI that the script, as Ekta would say, 'is a banger'. The film is reported to be released on January 8th, 2021.
