Now, critic and trade analyst, Komal Nahta has revealed some shocking statements on 'Coolie. No 1' OTT release, in a report he confirmed that one of the film producer Vashu Bhagnani had a long discussion on video calls with the heads of some of the national multiplex chains and requested them to give him a sizeable amount of advance or MG royalty for his 'Coolie No. 1' because the only reason he was holding back his film was to stand in solidarity with the multiplexes.
Vashu also explained that the multiplex chains would gain nothing by insisting on the eight-week gap between theatrical and OTT/satellite release if people were going to be wary of visiting cinemas. On the other hand, if he was allowed to release the film on OTT earlier than usual, he would be able to make a few crores extra from the streaming platform or television channel, depending upon whether he would opt for streaming or telecast of his film soon after its theatrical run.
It is when the multiplexes refused to consider giving Vashu this waiver that he thought he shouldn't be waiting for cinemas to reopen to release his 'Coolie No. 1'. What the multiplex chains counter-offered him was that instead of waiving off the eight-week window, they would shoulder the additional interest that he was paying while waiting for cinemas to reopen, by giving him concessions in booking terms, forgoing some charges and aiding in the promotion of his film at nominal or no cost. Well, after all these incidents, Vashu made his mind to release the film on the digital platform directly.
'Coolie No 1' is a comedy film that is a remake of the 1995 film of the same name. The latest version of the film is directed by David and produced by Vashu Bhagnani. The film stars popular faces including Varun, Sara Ali Khan, Paresh Rawal, Shikha Talsania, and Javed Jaffrey in the pivotal roles.
