This marks it out as the asli crossover film, and crossing over from 'that' side. Ronnie Screwvala who has had great international mileage for a great film, Rakesh Mehra's 'Rang De Basanti', is all set to start on this sensationally cast film.
You can stop scratching your head about who the hero opposite Uma Thurman will be. None other than India's real international star (after 'Koi..Mil Gaya' and 'Krrish') -- Hrithik Roshan! What makes it even more sensational is that the Hollywood-meets-Bollywood project will be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, himself just back from the glory that 'Omkara' has covered him with.
The Uma-Hrithik film is set in 1943 Burma during the Second World War when Indian soldiers were fighting for the British against Japan. Uma has already been approached for the role and is "thinking about" the project though the PR sources have cautioned about her offical okay. "While the initial moves have been made, the cast is yet to be finalised," they clarified.
The film will be cowritten by director Vishal and Matthew Robbins, the writer-director of 'Batteries Not Included'. A number of international technicians will also be involved in this film.
Vishal's publicist Poonam Sahai confirms that Vishal will be doing the project either way, though he is yet to start working on it and the rest of the cast is also being finalised. Ronnie Screwvala was however not too forthcoming and wants to remain non-commital as of now.
They only confirm that Vishal is on, as of now. - (SAMPURN)
