The FIR has been registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections, including 108 (abetment), want on vilification upon a community (153A) and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace (504), the police said.
This came after a complaint was lodged by advocate L. Ramesh Naik last month. `My case against popular Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is not to gain any publicity but to convey to her that what she did was wrong. When farmers take to the streets to protest against any government policy, they are not necessarily terrorists, as she thinks. I have joined many such protests, am I a terrorist? I need clarification on this and therefore I am fighting this case,` Naik said.
This comes after the actress tweeted on 21 October, `People who spread misinformation and rumours about CAA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading misinformation about Farmer's bill and causing terror in the nation, they are terrorists. You very well know what I said but simply like to spread misinformation.`
The complaint against Ranaut, also alleged that she had the motive of causing riots and disturbing the peace in the society. It said the tweet has hurt the sentiments of lakhs of farmers. These kinds of statements by the celebrities will promote enmity between different groups of society and will lead to unfortunate incidences.
