Popular Punjabi singer and actor Rajvir Jawanda passed away at Fortis Hospital in Mohali on Monday, nearly 12 days after sustaining critical injuries in a road accident near Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. The 35-year-old artist had suffered severe head and spinal damage after his motorcycle collided with stray cattle on September 27.
Despite intensive treatment, Jawanda’s neurological condition showed no improvement, and he remained on life support until his demise. Doctors had described his condition as extremely critical due to minimal brain activity.
A resident of Sector 71, Mohali, and originally from Pona village in Ludhiana’s Jagraon area, Jawanda was cherished for his popular tracks Surname, Kamla, Mera Dil, and Sardari. He also made his mark in Punjabi cinema with movies such as Jind Jaan, Mindo Taseeldarni, Kaka Ji, and Subedar Joginder Singh.
Starting his career in 2014 with the song Munda Like Me, Jawanda quickly gained popularity for his soulful voice and songs portraying Punjabi pride. Interestingly, he once aspired to join the police force before choosing a career in music, as noted in his Apple Music biography.
His sudden passing has left fans and the Punjabi entertainment fraternity in deep sorrow. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had visited the hospital a day before his death to check on his health.
Known for other hit numbers like Tu Dis Penda, Khush Reha Kar, Afreen, Landlord, Down to Earth, and Kangani, Rajvir Jawanda’s loss marks the end of a vibrant era in Punjabi music and cinema. Tributes continue to pour in from admirers and colleagues remembering his contribution to the industry.
