Now what remains to be seen is how the audience reacts to her role in this comedy thriller. We recently caught up with the sexy dancer-actress and had a lengthy talk on her new film ‘Sunday', her career and other issues.
Q: Tell us something about the film ‘Sunday' ....
A: ‘Sunday' is an excellent light hearted comedy film which also has lots of thrills, suspense and other ingredients.
In this film I play the role of a fashion designer called Ritu who is basically from Delhi and ‘bindas' as well as ‘out-spoken'. Whenever she designs a dress, she invariably gives it to her best friend Sahaer (played by Ayesha Takia).
The main idea of the film is a missing ‘Sunday' from the lives of the characters; and everyone is responsible for this.
Q: You are opposite Ajay Devgan in this film ...
A: Look, the lead pair of the film is Ajay and Ayesha. In addition, Arshad Warsi, Irfaan Khan and I play roles of bluffers and one of us has done something wrong. If you think that I am very close to Ajay in the film, you are mistaken.
Q: In your last film ‘Salaam E Ishq' your chemistry with Anil Kapoor was appreciated. Will there be something in ‘Sunday' too?
A: No. The concept of this film is just the opposite of that in ‘Salaam E Ishq'. The story of the previous film included the closeness of a young girl with a middle-aged man.
Q: The audience's expectations regarding your performance have soared after ‘Salaam E Ishq'. Do you think that your performance in ‘Sunday' will help them to repose their faith on you?
A: Look, each film is of a different genre and the character is different and we have to work according to it. Personally, I always try to give the best as an actor to each film I do.
Like in the last film, this time also I have worked will my heart and I hope the audience will appreciate my performance and I will meet their expectations.
Q: In addition to ‘Sunday', you are also featuring in Rohit Shetty's ‘Golmaal Returns'. Do you have any comments on this?
A: ‘Golmaal Returns' will be my second comedy film in which there are four heroes and four heroines. The specialty of this film is that each couple here has a different story and that is linked to comedy. I am opposite Tushaar Kapoor in this film.
Q:How has been the experience of working with other co-actors, especially the heroines?
A: I have enjoyed working with everyone. Already the maximum part of the film has been shot and still some portions remain to be filmed. The next shooting schedule will begin from February and we have a lot of way to go together.
Q: Tell us something about your forthcoming films ‘Allah Ke Bande' and ‘Jai Veeru'?
A: The story of ‘Allah Ke bande' is very sensitive and based on juvenile crime. It is a story of children who commit crimes and are lodged in juvenile homes and all that happens with them there.
On the other hand, ‘Jai Veeru' is a comedy film where Fardeen Khan and Kunal Khemu are with me.
Q: That means with ‘Jai Veeru' you will have a hat-trick of comedy films?
A: (Laughingly) yes sure. Kunal has a very strong sense of timing for comedy films and even Fardeen is good. In this film Kunal is opposite me.
Q: You have said that you give more importance to performance than skin show ... Don't you think that this will have an adverse effect on your career as even top heroines of the day are not adverse to skin show?
A: I personally don't think that it is essential to expose for films. However, if the role demands, I have no objection to skin show.
The role I did in ‘Salaam E Ishq' was that of a young dancer residing in London and it demanded that I wear short skirts and sleeveless tops. I feel that if you don't meet the demands of your role, you are a fool and not on the right track.
Q: What is your opinion about doing item numbers in films?
A: Honestly speaking, I don't have any problems doing item numbers. If a big banner with a good production value offers me to do an item number, I have no problems whatsoever in performing it. And if the film has good stars, it's all the better.
Q: How would you like to describe Anjana Sukhani?
A: (Laughing) It is very difficult indeed. I feel that to answer this question, I would require to write an essay of 4-5 pages. But if I need to define myself in simple words, I would say that I am a good soul. Rajnee Gupta
