While police denied any such incident, mediamen deployed outside Bachchan's bungalow anticipating trouble in the wake of clashes between the MNS and Samajwadi Party (SP) supporters on Sunday said they heard verbal abuses being hurled by the duo and also saw a bottle being thrown by them.
Security was already stepped up at Bachchan's house 'Prateeksha' in Juhu following the MNS chief Raj Thackeray's attack on the superstar for preferring Uttar Pradesh over Maharashtra for opening a girls' college.
Senior police inspector Deepak Katdare of the nearby Juhu police station, who denied the attack, said: "Apart from the private security guards posted there, we had also deployed our own men at the spot and no such incident has been observed there during the night."
However, a mediaperson present at the spot said: "At around 1:30 am, some cameramen, who were posted outside the bungalow anticipating trouble, heard the abuses and also saw a bottle being thrown at the direction of bungalow."
Earlier in the night, SP leader Amar Singh had lodged an FIR against Thackeray and others in South Mumbai's Azad Maidan police station regarding the incident of protest by MNS activists during his press conference on Saturday.
A couple of theatres staging Bhojpuri films outside the metropolis were attacked and five cars were damaged during Sunday's violence after which 15 MNS and five SP activists were arrested. However a man who has known Amitabh Bachchan for more than three decades through thick and thin came out in strong defence of the megastar, now the target of an attack by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray.
Deepak Sawant, Bachchan's makeup man for the better part of his film career, said the Big B had done a lot for Maharashtrians and even insisted on acting in Marathi films.
Thackeray has accused Bachchan of being more loyal to Uttar Pradesh despite attaining superstardom in Mumbai.
"In the nineties, Bachchan did a Marathi film for me, called 'Akka'. He himself asked for a role in it and said Maharashtra has given him fame, wealth...everything. He has done three films with me, all for free," Sawant said.
Sawant's last film as producer, a Bhojpuri flick called 'Ganga' had Amitabh in a major role. It also starred Manoj Tiwari, who performed at the UNPA public rally despite alleged threats by MNS supporters.
"Amitji is a very nice human being. He has never indulged in casteism. He has helped several Maharastrians and has attended Marathi drama and cultural events," Sawant said.
Meanwhile, Big B cut short his shooting schedule and flew to Mumbai following reports that miscreants had attacked his house, police sources said.
Bachchan had been shooting for Sujit Sircar's latest film 'Shoe Bite' for over a week in the Himachal Pradesh capital and was scheduled to stay on for at least another week.
Police sources said Bachchan travelled by road from Shimla to Chandigarh and then flew from Chandigarh to Mumbai.
