That probably is the reason behind her choosing negative characters in few of her tele-shows while in few others she tries on making her audience laugh. And her style of choosing characters remains the same with films, too.
She is now playing both the characters of saas and bahu in the Doordarshan show Kabhi Saas Kabhi Bahu. Interested in playing many shades of characters, Sushmita is really enjoying plying both saas and bahu simultaneously.
"I am actually stuck in between them as I am playing both the saas and the bahu in the show," exclaims Sushmita.
It's usually taken as affecting mind and sometimes creating depression for the audience of those saas-bahu serials but with Sushmita's comic characterization the DD show has really become enjoyable and interesting, too.
How does the lady of show accept the fact behind the fiction? "I always feel good with comedies. It makes me relieved. Recently I have portrayed a comic character called Romila Chachi," says Sushmita.
Sushmita says that the reason behind her accepting the role in Kabhi Saas Kabhi Bahu is Doordarshan only.
The versatile lady is quite depressed with other satellite channels and explains that Doordarshan has more reach than any other satellite channel in India.
In that scenario Sushmita finds reaching women in remote areas through DD a much better option than to face camera with layers of make-up hiding the real touch of characters.
Talking about new generation entering television, Sushmita says that today's generation is ahead of others in any which ways possible but a matter of fact is that she is little ahead of them with her experience.
At the filmy front, while Sushmita is playing a comic character in Karan Johar's Dostana in one hand, she is portraying a negative character in Maruti Mera Dost.
"My character in this film is quite positive and comic, too. I am playing Priyanka's aunty who allows Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham for few days to stay in her house," Sushmita describes her character in Dostana and about Maruti... she adds, "I am playing a witchy old lady who will remind you of the crooked warden in King Uncle."
Albeit she has played many characters in his career, she still pays equal importance to her dream character. Years ago, Sushmita had a chance of playing Pankaj Kapoor's wife in a drama based on Rangey Raghav's novel, Kab Tak Pukarun.
Remembering her character in that Pallavi Joshi, Pankaj Kapoor and herself starrer play, Sushmita says, "I played an impotent woman in the play. That was quite a powerful character. Given a chance, I would love to play such a character once again." - Rajnee Gupta
