Raveena Tandon isn't as dumb as she is made out to be. With Agnivarsha and Satta in her kitty, she knows she can't be written off as a bimbette. But would you still have her talking on serious cinema? Ravs was heard giving her valued opinion on the differences between Hollywood and Bollywood. They, she says, have great style but we are good, too, though a wee bit more dramatic.
But what was really outrageous was her claim that her next film, Ek Se Badkar Ek directed by Kundan Shah belongs to the same genre as Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron! Now, isn't she treading on unsure grounds? Shah speaking of the kind of films he is making off late has said he doesn't do them out of volition. He has a signed a six-year contract with the Tips group to direct films for them. Ek Se Badkar Ek is part of that series much like Kya Kehna and now, Dil Hai Tumhara were. This is in sharp contrast to the days when National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) financed films such Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron.
What mattered was the director's commitment to his craft and complete lack of any interference from any quarter. We all know commercial cinema is all about interferences of all and sundry. Let Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron bit stay as it were. How about simply calling your film a situational comedy, Raveena?
