Miss UK ready for Bollywood debut

Covering the US presidential elections and signing up for a Bollywood Hindi film may not be in the same line of action for even a 'Miss Congeniality'. And when it is done by a blonde who already has the Miss UK title under her belt, it makes you sit up and notice.

That's exactly what a 20-something Brooke Johnston wants. Her foray into Bollywood is courtesy actor-director Puneet Issar, who played Duryodhan in the TV series "Mahabharat". He has roped her in for his Hindi film "Nishchay Kar Apni Jeet Karoon".

"I met Puneet through some friends in the US. He told me about the film and I liked its concept. I also liked the idea of coming to India. Bollywood tempted me to pick up this assignment. It looks like there is scope," an optimistic Brooke, who is trying these days to memorise her Hindi dialogues, said here.

She will be paired with newcomer Sikh boy Gulzar Chahal in the film that also has actress Tulip Joshi.

Brooke has an impressive CV to back her up. Besides a degree in Archaeology and TV and Radio journalism, she spent 2008 covering the presidential elections in the US.

"The election campaigns were a lot of fun and I had the opportunity to talk to the main candidates - (Barack) Obama, Hillary (Clinton) and (John) McCain. Obama inspires everyone, though I would have liked to see Hillary in the Oval office," Brooke said.

She has not only worked in front and behind the camera for TV shows, but also is involved actively with People for Ethical Treatment to Animals (PETA).

For the model, Miss Universe aspirant, journalist, archaeologist, activist and now actor - life seems to have just begun in the dream world of Bollywood.
