/> 'Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye' got released last Friday. Though the promotion of the film has been low key, one can't miss the excitement in the voice of Randeep Hooda for whom this is a big release. And why not? After all he plays as many as 18 characters in the film (yes, you read it right).

While the makers are looking at the audience exploring the film by themselves, Randeep has all the right reasons to be hopeful about MKMJA that also stars Raima Sen and Arbaaz Khan since it is being presented by the same guys (PVR) who came up with 'Taare Zameen Par' and 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa' before.

Over to the man who talks to Joginder Tuteja about the 'ultimate fantastical' film that 'Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye' is and more.

Did you say fantastical?
That's true. MKMJA is funnily fantastical and very entertaining. The film has such an original screenplay and an original thought behind it.

It has got a bit of everything, whether it is humor, satire, drama, fantasy - you name it and it has got it. You can't predict which way the film would turn in it's two hour odd narrative. It is a story about dreams coming true. It is about imagination and how you visualize and look forward to certain things.

So you are the fantasy element of Raima Sen?
Not in a naughty way that you would term a fantasy as! It is basically a story about this woman who is a housewife, has a child and has given up everything, including her own ambitions and even her life just so that she can devote all her time in loving her husband and daughter.

But guess what, her husband is having an affair. So what's new, one may say? After all, we have seen quite a lot of such stories that deal with extra marital affairs, right?

Right. So you come into her life?
In her life, but as a fantasy. Now that's the twist. This woman starts imagining her ideal man and wonders how his entire personality, his lips and eyes would be.

And in between these fantasies of hers, the door bell rings and voila, there comes Jai i.e. me! He is a kind of character that every woman would want to fantasize about. This is where the movie turns.

So it is true that you have 18 roles to play in the film?
Yes, I am doing different character portrayals by showcasing different forms of Jai. He is someone who helps her push through her dreams. He starts making things happen for her. And yes, the way he does so is what makes the film very humorous.

A quirky role indeed...

Indeed a quirky role. I play someone who is very enthusiastic while she is just bored and depressed. And when he walks into her life, it's all between the both of them.

Madhureeta Anand's [the director] treatment is so funny that it would have you in splits. We are telling the story in an entertaining tone. Even while watching the film, most women would feel that their man should be like Jai.

But why 18 characters?
Each character in the film comes at certain point in the film to have a discussion with her or help her. In fact he comes every time when you as an audience are also vouching for him to arrive on the scene and tell her what to do.

Was the number 18 always there to begin with?
No, it was not about the numbers; it was about what we wanted to make. There was already a very fantastic character being written and during the creative process, we came up with other characters too.

The script was being organically developed and at one point of time, there were four more characters that were supposed to be added in the narrative.

But then eventually they were cut out since the movie was becoming too long. We felt that the movie was becoming self indulgent as a result of which, these characters were not even shot.
