Sameera Reddy's been trying hard to find a footing in Bollywood. But neither romantic heroine roles ('Maine Dil Tujhko Diya') or glam doll roles (like 'Musafir') worked for her.
She then turned towards meaningful cinema with talented Bengali director Buddhadeb Dasgupta's 'Kalpurush'. The film got critical acclaim but stardom still continues to elude Sameera. Even item songs and an
occasional 'Taxi Number 9211' did nothing for her.
But the girl's not giving up yet. Now she's playing the role of a rustic Rajasthani woman in Nagesh Kukunoor's low-budget movie 'Yeh Hausla'.
The buzz is that the film based on the life of a Dalit woman, the role which Sameera plays.
Actually Nagesh was impressed by what Buddhadeb Dasgupta said about Sameera. In fact he also heard about how Dasgupta drew comparisons between Sameera and Smita Patil.
Sameera shot at a stretch in Jodhpur for 46 days for 'Yeh Hausla'.
To make the character real, she was mostly clad in ghagra-choli and walked barefoot in barren land.
The actress said, "I feel I've gone to acting school. Nagesh has taught me so much."
She has also been sayin how John Abraham advised her to take up this rewarding film.
As for Nagesh, he's unperturbed by the failure of his commercial venture 'Bombay To Bangkok' and the fact that his action-thriller with Akshay Kumar is yet to release as well as 'Aashayein' with John Abraham being
stuck.
If all goes well, Sameera might just end up with the acclaim she's looking for. Let's wait and watch.
