Come April 2009 and Bollywood would be ready to welcome one more debutant leading lady.
Though the year so far has brought new faces like Mahi Gill and Kalki to Bollywood with Dev D, when it comes to a
new face that begins her career as a quintessential Bollywood heroine, Vaishali Desai may well be the name that could
make an early impression.
Even though the surname Desai comes with it's own for this pretty girl in her early 20s,
Vaishali claims that she has already started working on maintaining a balance in her personal and professional life.
"You could be in front of the camera for most of the time but then you have to strike a balance", says Vaishali who will be
making her debut opposite Jackky Bhagnani in Vivek Sharma directed Kal Kissne Dekha.
She adds, "You should never forget that other than being Vaishali - the actress, you are also Vaishali - a daughter and a
friend who has her own personal life at home.
You can never let that fact go away and it is better if one
understands this at the very early stage of the career. You could be all prim and proper at work and be composed but when
at home, it is better to be relaxed and let loose your hair."
She doesn't come up with a clichéd statement belonging to 'I never thought I could be an actress' kinds.
"Being from a filmy family (as is a known fact that she is related to the Late Manmohan Desai), the glamour thing is right
there in front of you all the time. Being in the industry, you can't ignore it as you know that it's quite an addictive place to be.
So if I say that I never thought about it, I would be lying."
The immediate question that comes to the mind then is, how did she land up into films?
"In this regard, I would say that I have been just plain lucky. Everything that I have done other than my education has
happened to me by an accident.
I started off as a model and right from the modeling days, things have just fallen
into place without me actually pushing aggressively for them", says Vaishali, "Yes, I enjoyed my modeling days and since I
came from a Bollywood background, there was a strong foundation being built as well."
She admits that belonging to film fraternity does come with its own advantages.
"First and foremost people can't take advantage of you. It all boils down to how I wish to approach my career in this
industry.
It's for me to judge a person on whether he/she is good or bad and what I should be possibly doing to
move ahead in my career. I also know for sure that nobody can push you into doing anything wrong. It's your call at the end
of the day and how you want to react to a particular situation", she says in a thoughtful tone.
In this contest, she is confident about Kal Kissne Dekha?
"Of course yes", Vaishali is quick to respond, "Thankfully Kal Kissne Dekha came at just the right time in my career and I
didn't have to look back in time. I made a right decision and the way film has been wrapped up in quick time further makes
me confident about its prospects."
