In the time when everyone else is looking at the west for big story ideas, Barjatyas have grown this penchant for rehashing their old productions. After successfully repackaging 'Nadiya Ke Paar' as 'Hum aapke Hain Kuan', Suraj Barjatya makes ' Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon' out of 'Chitchor'. Zarina Wahab has been replaced by Kareena Kapoor and her mother played by Dina Pathak is replaced by Himani Shivpuri. But what hasn't changed is a lot of mush, oozing emotions and Bihari servants.

Satya Prakash (Pankaj Kapoor) and Susheela (Himani Shivpuri) are a 'so-sweet' traditional couple who have oodles of love for their 'nubile' young daughter, Sanjana (Kareena Kapoor). Susheela is on a full time job to find a prospective suitor for her daughter and finds one in Prem (Hrithik Roshan). Prem is everything, Sanjana is not but love finds it's way and Sanjana gets drawn towards Prem.

Story takes a turn and here comes another Prem (Abhishek Bachchan). He is your goody-two-shoes dignified rich guy, who is reserved and shy as well and that is enough for Susheela to change her preference. To top the things, Mr shy falls for charming Sanjana too. The girl has to choose one of them. Who will it be?

With the changing times, Kareena's guitar replaces Wahab's harmonium and younger brother, played by Master Raju, is phased out by computer-animated parrot Raja and Johny, the dog. Now for the performances, Hrithik gets a bit carried away and delivers a loud performance while Abhishek steals the show from under his nose with his reticent performance. Ecstatic Kareena of the first half gives way to the much toned down girl in the second one.

Pankaj Kapoor is a pleasing addition to the star cast as the veteran actor plays father of the bride with aplomb. The film is three and a half hours long and Anu Malik's songs crop up every now and then. While the film does have it's moments, what it lacks is the spirit that kept viewers rivetted to their seats in Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.
