B.R. Chopra conceived the story of Baghban when he visited Europe in 1973. The apathy of western youth towards their elders moved him so much that he decided to make a film on it but somehow the project went into doldrums.
It was only this year that Ravi Chopra, son of B R Chopra, decided to revive the project. "The story of the film is eternal", he claims. Apart from it's unusual delay, Baghban promises to recreate the magic of 70s with Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini playing the lead roles.
'Baghban', when literally translated means the gardner, is the story of Raj Malhotra (Amitabh Bachchan), his wife Pooja (Hema Malini) and their four sons. Being a diligent man Raj works hard his whole life to secure a better future for his loved ones hoping that they'll also take care of him when he grows old. But will they be there when the 'bahghban' needs them?
The film also features Salman Khan and Mahima Chaudhary supported by character artistes like Yash Pathak, Paresh Rawal, Suman Ranganathan, Divya Dutta, etc. Holi song composed by Aadesh Shrivastav and sung by Amitabh Bachchan is another highlight of the film.
BR Films is one of the oldest production houses in the Bollywood which has given classic hits like 'Waqt', 'Humraaz' and 'Naya Daur'. Will they be able to regain midas touch with Baghban, remains to be seen?
