I still remember the day when Capt. Vikram Batra conquered 'Point 5140' and while talking to Barkha Dutt, NDTV reporter, quipped, "Yeh dil maange more!"
LOC never looked so sacred to me.It was summer of 99, the time when approx. 500 gallant Indian soldiers laid their lives on it's soil.
The enemy had every advantage of the height, from where they could take pot shots at our boys, to the latest ammo but what they lacked was courage, the courage our men in uniform showed up to the hilt.
J.P. Dutta's LOC - Kargil is just a reminder of that courage.
It features real heros like Major Rajesh Singh Adhikari, Major Deepak Rampal, Capt Anuj Nayyar, Lt Balwan Singh, Rifleman Sanjay Kumar, Lt Col Y.K. Joshi, Lt Vijayant Thapar, Major Padmapani Achayra, Lt Manoj Kumar Pandey, Grend. Yogendra Sing Yadav, Capt. Vikram Batra played by Karan Nath, Sanjay Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Suneil Shetty, Sunjay Dutt, Amar Upadhya, Nagarjuna, Ajay Devgan, Manoj Bajpai, Abhishek Bachchan respectively.
Get ready for an adrenalin rush as these gallant sons of India take on the enemy. They have left behind their love interests and their families just to heed the call of their motherland.
With some poignant dialogues (O.P. Dutta) ably supported by great cinematography (Karim Khatri) and effective background score (Aadesh Shrivastava), J.P Dutta successfully recreates the scenes of the war, fought on one of the highest battlefields on this planet.
Anu Malik's tunes sound good to the ears when crooned with the soulful poetry of Javed Saab.
The realism in the film is it's biggest asset. Not only it keeps you riveted but also you end up rooting for the chaps, who exhibit the peerless bravery.
Full marks to the director for his extensive research of the plot. Dutta had around 200 notebooks with handwritten notes on the background of the war. He had about 26 meetings with the dead soldiers' families and with the Army to get his details right.
With LOC, J.P. makes us realise that freedom doesn't come as easy as we think, when we sing hosannas for peace sitting in our cushy sofas. It needs sacrifices or in words of Capt. Vikram Batra, 'Yeh dil maange more...'
