The 56th National Film Awards for 2008 will be given away by the President of India Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil on 19 March, 2010 evening at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Bengali feature film ‘Antaheen' by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, was adjudged as the Best Feature Film. The film also bagged Best Cinematography, Best Lyrics and Best Female Playback Singer awards. Shreya Ghosal was announced as the Best Female Playback singer for Antaheen as well as for Marathi Film Jogva.

Avik Mukhopadhyay was adjudged as the Best Cinematographer for ‘Antaheen' and Anindya Banerjee and Chandril Bhattacharya were awarded for Best Lyrics for their lyric ‘Ferari Mon' in Antaheen.‘Sab Charitro Kalponik', a feature film by Rituparno Ghosh was announced as the Best Bengali Film.

Best Actress Award goes to Priyanka Chopra for her role in ‘Fashion' while Upendra Limaye bagged the Best Actor Award for his role in ‘Jogva'.Kangana Ranaut has been adjudged as Best Supporting Actress for her role in ‘Fashion' and Arjun Rampal as Best Supporting Actor for ‘Rock On'.
