She may seem like a misfit in the age of Laras and Mallikas but she is also one of the most promising youngsters, who has achieved much more than Mallika and her ilk put together, in such a short span of time.
With 'Main Hoon Na', Amrita Rao, has joined the major league and is cynosure of none other than SRK these days.
How did the huge transformation happen?
"It's all with the support from well-wishers," exclaims Rao.
"I began my acting career with Raj Kanwar's 'Ab Ke Baras' and even though the film itself didn't do well, it was fun working with such a talented team. Again, it is all the support and well wishes that helped me bag a role with SRK in 'Main Hoon Na'," she says with a demure smile.
Coming from a non-filmi background Amrita had to face a lot of problems before taking this huge leap in her career.
"In the last couple of years I have come across people who wanted me to do them favours in exchange for roles. I rejected them all and am determined never to compromise with my self-esteem at any cost," exults the once 'Bru' girl.
Now that's what we call a woman of substance. Seems like Mallika can learn a thing or two from this youngster!
