Rohit Roy is planning his next directorial project. The actor has bought the rights to remake the 1982 Basu Chatterjee film Shaukeeen. The actor made his directorial debut with Rice Plate - one of the ten short films which made up Sanjay Gupta's production Dus Kahaniyaan.
The original film starred A K Hangal, Utpal Dutt and Ashok Kumar in the main roles of three senior men, while the role of a young couple was played by Mithun Chakraborty and Rati Agnihotri. On Rohit's remake wishlist are: Amitabh Bachchan, Danny Denzongpa and Mithun Chakraborty. He has not zeroed in on the actors to play the young couple yet.
A source working on the project reveals, "Rohit is presently putting the finishing touches to the script. Shaukeen is one of his all-time favourite films and he's been working on the remake for a very long time. Once his script is ready, he will take it to Amitabh who's expressed interest in the project."
Roy confirms, "It's early to say anything but yes, I am writing a script for the Shaukeen remake. Nothing is finalised as yet." However about the casting he adds, "I have already spoken to Dannysaab, who I think is a rockstar, and he's very gung-ho about the film. I am also very keen to have Mr Bachchan in the project as he's my God. I haven't spoken to the third hero because I am not yet sure if that character is Gujarati, Bengali or Bihari. Will take a call on it after that's decided. I have not signed on anyone as yet."
