Jewellery designer Farah Khan Ali is upset with model Poonam Pandey's decision to go nude if the Indian cricket team
wins the World Cup against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede stadium Saturday.
Farah says people who are excited about the prospect of watching Poonam naked should watch porn instead.
"It's amazing how notoriety can make a nobody famous overnight. Someone called Poonam Pandey is willing to bare all if
the Indian cricket team wins & everyone is excited????
Would have been more exciting if a famous Bollywood
star had said that. Who wants to see Poonam Pandey strip? Def not me, " Farah, daughter of veteran actor Sanjay Khan,
posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.
"It's very easy to get fame. The qsn is how long can u hang on to it successfully? And for those of u who are tickled at the
prospect of seeing a woman bare all publicly (sick) go watch porn. U will get many choices there, " she added.
Despite the wrath she has been facing for her announcement, Poonam, a Mumbai-based model, seems quite excited about
her decision.
"I am a New Generaion (sic) Girl!!! Any thing for my Country to get Home the World Cup So INDIA Cheer with me That we
need 1983 BACK, " she tweeted.
Pandey seems to have taken inspiration from model Larissa Riquelme, who had promised to run nude if her country,
Paraguay, won the football World Cup last year. Paraguay lost, but she ran naked anyway.
Stop model's bare all plan, BJP leader tells police
Poonam Pandey's plan has also angered the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) women's wing which has sought police action
against her.
In a letter to Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik, BJP Mahila Morcha state president Nita Kelkar said Saturday's World
Cup game at Wankhede Stadium shall be graced by Indian President Pratibha Patil and Sri Lankan President Mahinda
Rajapakse.
"To strip in front of a large gathering in celebration of India's victory is highly condemnable and deserves to be halted and
foiled forthwith," Kelkar urged.
"Indian women are revered and respected since time immemorial. We have a tradition of Sita, Draupadi, Jijamata, Queen of
Jhansi, Tarabai Holkar, Savitri Phule, Ramabai Ambedkar, Sarojini Naidu, Indira Gandhi, Kalpana Chawla and many more.
Eminent lawyer Ganesh Sovani, explaining the legal position, said if Poonam actually sheds her clothes before the crowd,
it would be a serious offence under Section 292, 294 of the Indian Penal Code and the Indecent Representation of Women
Act, 1987, besides posing a security risk in view of the huge crowd at the venue.
Poonam, who has been seen in several ad campaigns, Friday said she would seek permission from the Board of Control for
Cricket in India (BCCI) and Mumbai Police before her 'bare all' act.
"I have no intention of distracting the Indian team members. It will be a legal act and it is my own idea of celebrating India's
victory in the World Cup," she said.
Kelkar countered this by saying there are many other ways of celebrating India's victory without sullying the image of Indian
women before the whole world.
