Attempts to cause friction between her and Shah Rukh Khan over the Baba Ramdev issue has pained Shabana Azmi. Denying that she is supporting the yoga guru, the actress-activist clears that she has nothing against SRK.
False claims
Shabana is horrified at reports that she has extended her support to Ramdev, who started his fast-unto-death against corruption on Friday.
She says, "I am being quoted as supporting Baba Ramdev. This is false. I've categorically said I won't go to Delhi to support him.
I believe the issue of corruption has to be kept alive. And any public figure, who stands up against corruption should be welcomed. But to say I am for Ramdev and Shah Rukh is against him is mischievous."
Social issues
She rues the fact that individuals are being allowed to become more important than social issues. "We must focus on the anti-corruption movement and not let that die down due to other controversial issues.
Personalities must not become larger than issues. This is not about me, Shah Rukh or Ramdev."
The firebrand feels that to wage a war against corruption any leader or public figure should first prove himself adequate.
"Ramdev needs to answer questions on his RSS links, on his wealth of R1100 crores and the islands that he has bought. He must first prove himself incorruptible."
Shabana and King Khan have never worked together in all these years, though not deliberately.
She was to play his mom in My Name Is Khan but had to opt out for another commitment Gurinder Chadha's It's A Wonderful Afterlife.
