Hitlist carried an exclusive story on June 9 about Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan having agreed to perform at the India International Film Festival (IIFA) to be held in Toronto.
But a day later, the star couple decided not to go ahead with the plan.
While there are many speculations about why this happened, a source close to Abhishek insists he was only considering it, and hadn't yet signed the dotted line.
As for his decision to not go ahead was apparently because he got miffed with the organisers for jumping the gun and speaking about it as though it is confirmed.
What really happened?
It may be recalled that Amitabh Bachchan had disassociated himself with IIFA in 2010. Sources say the Bachchans couldn't keep their promise of premiering Abhi-Ash-starrer Raavan at the ceremony.
The movie also has a Tamil version and apparently, director Mani Ratnam was under a lot of pressure from the Tamil Nadu government to not premiere it at the function in Sri Lanka due to political issues.
Love in Toronto
According to the source close to the younger Bachchan, IIFA approached him with a good amount and a request. Since Toronto was where Abhi proposed Ash, it was felt that this would be a good platform for them, too.
Abhi had tentatively agreed, but no paper work was done.
And later when he realised that the organisers are already talking about them participating, even without informing him or his father, he decided to back out. Abhishek was unavailable for comment.
Is it Salman?
The were also rumours that the Bachchans backed out because Salman Khan was suppose to be a part of IIFA, 2011. However, sources near to the Bachchan family says it isn't true.
