Ramesh Sippy, director of the cult film Sholay, has been bitten by the acting bug.
He makes his debut in the Hindi remake of Gautham Vasudev Menon's Tamil blockbuster Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya starring Prateik and a newbie, Amy Jackson.
A source says, "Ramesh Sippy plays a Bollywood director in the movie, so more or less he is playing himself onscreen." The film is set against the backdrop of the film industry, with Prateik playing an assistant director.
Friend's request
So what prompted the director to face the camera? "It was writer Sridhar Raghavan who convinced him to act in the film. Raghavan is a close friend of Rohan Sippy, and has also penned Dum Maaro Dum.
He arranged the meeting between him and Menon," the source informs.
The director/producer and now actor confirms, "Yes, that's right. I don't know if it's the right time to talk about it, but I totally loved the experience."
