Karan Johar has often been heard saying that he doesn't believe in binding his proteges in any kind of contract. B
ut Student Of The Year seems to be an exception. Apparently, the filmmaker has had Alia Bhatt (Mahesh Bhatt's daughter), Varun Dhawan (David Dhawan's son) and Siddharth Malhotra bound by a contract where they will not be allowed to sign any other film until they complete SOTY.
Says a source, "While Mahesh Bhatt is fine with the contract since he had no plans of launching Alia, David Dhawan who was eager to launch his son, will have to wait."
Turning producer
David, who has never produced a film, is said to be now keen to produce one, to be directed by his elder son Rohit with younger son Varun in the lead.
Dhawan was said to be interested in remaking his 1997 blockbuster Judwaa. However, Judwaa's producer Sajid Nadiadwala is apparently already in the process of doing a sequel to Judwaa with Ranbir Kapoor playing the double role. So David was planning to get a fresh subject for his film.
The film, which is a young love story, would have been Varun's launch film, until Karan Johar made an offer that the Dhawans couldn't resist.
Says David, "I was planning to launch Varun, but I am glad that Karan Johar is doing the needful. It is a big thing to be launched by Dharma Productions. My son is in capable hands. My own plans for Varun can wait. If a producer like Karan Johar takes the initiative to launch new faces, I cannot think of my own narrow interests."
