Even as we get to hear that the new Ranbir Kapoor starrer is named after a song in a film starring his uncle Randhir Kapoor, the new Pratik starrer is named after a song in a Rishi Kapoor starrer. While Ayaan
Mukherjee's film with Ranbir is name Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Gautham Menon's love story with Pratik has just been christened Ek Deewana Tha.
Pratik who has now dropped the Babbar from his name is hellbent on going the solo-hero way in a big way. So now his next release a love story that was entitled Prem Katha has been renamed Ek Deewana Tha...to
go with Pratik's character.
Apparently, Pratik aims to do for solo-hero projects only. His next release My Friend Pinto is not only a solo-hero project, it's also titled after Pratik's character.
And now Pratik's next project, Tamil filmmaker Gautham Menon's remake of his own Tamil hit Vainnaithaandi Varuvaa has been re-named Ek Deewana Tha, although it's an out-and-out love story featuring Pratik and
model-actress Amy Jackson.
Apparently Pratik was keen that the film's title be pertinent to his character.
Says the source, "The original Tamil film was titled Vainnaithaandi Varuvaa which means, ‘Will You Cross The Skies & Come?'. Director Menon was thinking of a similar abstact title for the film. In fact it was to be
called Prem Katha in Hindi. But then it was decided that the film should have a zany title to go with Pratik's character."
Another factor which apparently played a hand in the film's re-christening was the Salman Khan. After Salman's Ek Tha Tiger it was felt that a title with the hero being extolled in the past tense created a sense of
nostalgia and excitement.
"Besides, " adds the source, " it's a line comes from a favourite song of Pratik...Ek haseena thi ek deewana tha. The first three words of the song had already been used as the title of an Urmila Matondkar thriller. The
makers of the Pratik starrer decided to use the second part of the Karz song for him."
Vijay Singh the CEO of Fox-Star the producers of Ek Deeewana Tha confirms the title.
