He fumbled after "Chandni Bar", but director Madhur Bhandarkar has proved his mettle again with "Page 3"
becoming a hit.
Produced by Sahara One Pictures Company, it was released only in the metros. The music of the film too has
been quite appreciated. Sahara celebrated the success of the film by inviting the star cast and top socialites for
a party.
"A lot of people warned me while I was making 'Page 3' - they all felt people would not understand a story like
this. But it has worked here, I'm getting calls from distributors who are saying that people have liked the film so
much," tells Bhandarkar.
He got real socialites and people he knew to act in his movie. He also got his driver and his assistant director
to act in the film.
"The idea is to make movies with good stories as what is going to work is content and not packaging and just
promos," adds Shailendra Singh of Percept Pictures.
The cost of the film is already said to have been recovered and he expects the film to run for a few more
weeks.
"Page 3" takes a behind-the-scenes look at the lifestyles of A-list celebrities in metro cities.
It explores the networking and the power play between the air-kissing, champagne-swilling celebrities and the
media, all witnessed through the eyes of an entertainment journalist, Madhavi Sharma, played by Konkana
Sensharma, winner of the National Award for "Mr. & Mrs. Lyer".
While Madhavi parties with the elite, she takes the last train back to her rented apartment to write about the
night's events that make headlines the next morning.
To a large extent, the film mocks page 3 celebrities. There was also a buzz that Bhandarkar got the socialites
to act without actually tell them what the script was all about.
Confirms Kishen Mulchandani, one of the biggest party animals in the social circuit in Mumbai: "Yes, that's
true, he never told me the script and what you see is the real Kishen. People used to tell me that I'm a star but
now a super star!
"Madhur wanted to give a surprise element to this film and that's why he just asked us to report on the sets.
But I'm thankful to Madhur and I'm very proud of this film no matter what people feel about my character. I love
my life and my profession is partying which I adore to the tee," says socialite Mulchandani.
Konkana, who will start shooting for her mother's film "Fifteen Park Avenue" along with Rahul Bose, also
attended the party.
Others at the party included cricketers Ashish Nehra, Mohammed Kaif and Ajay Jadeja. Almost every major
Mumbai socialite was present.
