The First look of the R Madhavan and Bipasha Basu starrer Jodi Breakers seems uncannily similar to a 2010 French rom-com that starred Romain Duris and Venessa Paradis (Johnny Depp's partner of 14 years).
Avinash Jumani, the Indian distributor of the French film that is soon to release here feels that the Bollywood film 'looks like a remake'. The trailer of Jodi Breakers shows the duo to be in the business of splitting up couples.
They are even shown distributing their business cards to people and asking them to get in touch with them if they need their services. On the other hand, the synopsis of Heartbreaker on Wikipedia reads: 'Alex and his sister run a business designed to break up relationships.
They are hired by a rich man to break up the wedding of his daughter. The only problem is that they only have one week to do so'.
Jumani says, "To be honest I was surprised when I saw the promos of Jodi Breaker. It looks like a remake."
He adds, "It's a coincidence that both the films have been announced around the same time. I am glad that it's not going to affect our film because it is releasing next week."
The distributor however admits that he is not in a position to take any legal action. "I can't really do anything. I am distributing the film. The remake rights are with Universal. They have not sold the remake rights to anyone.
As far as I know, Karan Johar is the only guy who came close to buying it. I am not sure if he has bought or not." Jumani goes on to add, "I think they (Universal Studios) already have an idea. It depends on them if they want to take any action."
