Shatrugan Sinha undergoes bypass surgery, recovering

Veteran actor Shatrugan Sinha, who was hospitalised after a breathing problem, has undergone bypass surgery. His doctor says he is "on road to a speedy recovery".

The actor-politician was operated upon Monday at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.

"Mr Sinha was hospitalised for severe breathlessness. During investigation, blockages were discovered in the coronary arteries. Based on medical advice, he underwent surgery," Ram Narain, COO Kokilaben Hospital, told.

"He is now well and on road to a speedy recovery. He thanks all his well-wishers for their unconditional love and support," he added.

As per reports, the surgery was performed Monday morning by cardiac surgeon Anvay Mulay.

Sinha will remain in the hospital for a week.

The 66-year-old had been admitted to the hospital in suburban Andheri on July 2 after he complained of breathlessness due to some paint work at his residence.

Sinha made his Bollywood debut in 1969 with "Sajan" and has acted in over 200 Hindi films, besides being a part of some Bengali and Punjabi movies.

Known for his powerful dialogues, he featured in hits such as "Kalicharan", "Vishwanath", "Blackmail", "Dostana", "Shaan" and "Kala Patthar".
