Born as Harikishan Giri Goswami on July 24, 1937, the actor made his debut in the film named ‘Fashion' in the year 1957. In the film ‘Kaanch Ki Gudia' in 1960, Manoj Kumar bagged the role of the leading actor.
Manoj Kumar received Padma Shri award from the Government of India for his outstanding contribution in the film industry.
In the year 1999, the actor received Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.

The actor's image as the patriotic hero of the industry started with the film ‘Shaheed', besed on Bhagat Singh's life.
He made his debut as a director with ‘Upkaar'. The film won four Filmfare award in the year 1968.
After retiring from Bollywood, Manoj Kumar joined Shiv Sena and entered politics.
He married Shashi Goswami and has two sons Vishal and Kunal.
