Movie buffs can savour the works of renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray at a weekend festival beginning at the Siri Fort auditorium here Friday.

The fourth in a series after K.L. Saigal, Madhubala and Dev Anand, the festival will feature five Ray classics coinciding with the commemoration of 50 years of his debut "Pather Panchali".

The five-film package of films includes the trilogy "Pather Panchali", "Aparajito" and "Apur Sansar". The two other films are "Charulata" and "Pratidwandi".

Veteran film actress and censor board chairperson Sharmila Tagore, who began her career with Ray's "Apur Sansar" in 1959, will inaugurate the festival.

Tagore also worked in ray's other films like "Devi" (1960), "Nayak" (1966), "Aranyer Din Ratri" (1970), and "Seema Baddha"(1971).

According to the information and broadcasting ministry, the concept of weekend film festivals was introduced to make people aware of India's rich cinematic heritage. Entry to the festivals is free.
