Joemol, who shot into fame as a schoolgirl in Malayalam films, said she had approached the Kunnamangalam First Class Judicial Magistrate to intervene to get her back Rs.10 million from her parents.
"It is my money which I earned from the film industry, which is now in the custody of my parents," she told reporters here.
"My father used this money to buy a petrol filling station and other assets," she alleged.
Joemol, now in her mid twenties, began her Malayalam film career in the award winning film "Oru Vadakan Veeragatha" that saw superstar Mammootty bagging the national award for the best actor. She went on to act in 18 more films before settling down to married life.
Joemol married US-based Chandrasekharan Pillai after getting acquainted with him through online chat three years ago.
Staying in Mumbai with her husband's parents, Joemol is now known as Gowri Chandrasekharan Pillai.
Joemol, after a three-year break from films, is preparing to make a comeback.
Earlier, national award winning actress Meera Jasmine had accused her family members of siphoning off her money. Jasmine settled the issue with her parents after the church acted as negotiator.
