He is the latest addition to the list of creative artists in Bollywood like choreographers Farah Khan (‘Main Hoon Na') and Ahmed khan (‘Lakeer-Forbidden Lines'), Music Director Vishal Bhardwaj (‘Makdi'and ‘Maqbool') and playback singer Anup Jalota (‘Tohfa Mohabbat Ka' and ‘Nishaan') who have been bitten by the film production/direction bug.

Having enthralled millions across the country with melodious songs overs the years, from ‘Papa Kehte Hai' in ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' to ‘Main Yahan Hoon Yahan' in ‘Veer Zaara' to ‘Ye Tara Wor Tara' in ‘Swades', National award winning playback singer Udit Narayan has now turned film producer with ‘Kab Hoi Gawna Hamar', a cinematic venture that takes him back to his roots.

‘'It is in Bihar, at my maternal uncle's house, that I was brought up and completed my SSC and saw my first dreams as a singer. In this sense, ‘Kab Hoi Gawna Hamar', a Bhojpuri film, takes me back to my roots, reflecting as it does the culture and traditions of the people in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in their entirity,''Udit Narayan said.

Addressing a press conference in the capital last evening to promote the film, which was released in Delhi yesterday, the National award winning singer said,''through this film, we have shown a lot of culture of Bihar and U.P, something which I cannot say about a majority of Hindi films today, reflecting as they do the NRIs' Problems and the goings on in hi-society. Making a film in Bhojpuri ( and not in Hindi) is, in a way, my tribute to the people and the culture amidst which I was brought up.'' Already released in Punjab and Haryana a couple of weeks ago, the film has been doing good business in these areas.

While the concept and story of ‘Kab Hoi Gawna Hamar' is by Udit Narayan's wife Deepa Narayan, the direction has been done by noted Bhojpuri filmmaker Anand D Ghatraj. The film stars the superstar of Bhojpuri films Ravi Kissen(who plays the lead), besides Bhojpuri actors Divya Desai and Mahesh Raja in key roles.

Present at the press conference, besides Udit Narayan, were his wife Deepa Narayan, actors Ravi Kissen, Mahesh Raja and Divya Desai and the film's director Anand D Ghatraj.

A usp of the film is that it is the first Bhojpuri film to have been shot in the foreign locales of Mauritius.

‘'We have made the film on international standards to show that even Bhojpuri films can match the production standards of Hindi films,'' Udit Narayan said.

Next on the agenda for the singer is making a film in Maithili.

‘'God willing and if the response to these films (‘Kab Hoi Gawna Hamar' and ‘Maithili language film) is good, I could some day also make a film in Hindi,''the singer said.
