"Many new actors are coming in cinema today and are experimenting and I am also a part of that cinema, so maybe somebody will offer me a romantic role. I will do it. I am very romantic inside," Jaideep said here Wednesday in an interview.
Films like "Khatta Meetha", "Gangs Of Wasseypur" and "Vishwaroop" saw Jaideep portraying grey characters.
His next "Commando" also sees him in a negative role.
Jaideep says choosing negative characters is not something he does purposely.
"Whenever I read a script or sign a film, I don't see whether he is a bad guy or a good guy. I see how much the character is contributing to the story?
How much is the importance of the character in taking the story forward? And what new I would be able to learn and what new I would be able to try in that?" Jaideep said.
"So if industry wants to tag me as a bad man, it's OK, but I don't feel that I am deliberately doing something or that am only trying to do bad roles. I have to do good roles," added the actor.
Longest audition was for 'Commando'
He had to face the longest audition of his career to get the role of villain AK 74 in Dilip Ghosh directed forthcoming action thriller "Commando".
He says he came into the picture when the film's casting director Honey Trehan suggested his name to producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Ghosh.
"He (Dilip) called me and I did an audition with Honey. Dilipji and Vipulji liked my audition. After that there was an interesting round. That was the longest audition I have had in my career till now," Jaideep said in an interview.
"I played that character during the audition for like 15-20 times in different shades, mannerisms and body language, and dialect. So they were like, 'Ok we need Jaideep for this'," he added.
Jaideep says his character is very different and that such a character has not been written in the last few years.
"When I read the character of A.K. in 'Commando', I found it very different at the script level also. I think this type of character has not been written in the last few years because he has a very weird nature," Jaideep said.
"He always wants to be a bad man. He loves to be a bad man. He likes to scare people, threaten and beat them, but at the same time, he is very chilled out. So the contrast in the behaviour and the character is very scary and weird. So the character is very different from that in 'Vishwaroop', 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' and 'Aatma'," he added.
"Commando" also features Vidyut Jamwal and former Miss India Pooja Chopra in the lead role.
The film releases April 12.
