The movie set in the 50s, will see the 26-year-old actress play a Bengali girl Paakhi Roy Chaudhary, who falls in love with a con man, played by Ranveer Singh. "I am happy that I am playing this kind of a role for a director like Vikramaditya. He has got the best out of me. It was a very challenging role and film.
We went through a lot of hardships while shooting for it and I am happy that the work is being appreciated," said Sonakshi, who is in the capital to promote her film.
The romantic-thriller will hit theatres this Friday. Sonakshi, who started her career with Salman Khan starrer "Dabangg" and went on to do films like "Rowdy Rathore", "Son of Sardaar" and "Dabangg 2", has majorly been seen in saaree-clad avatars on-screen.
"I don't sign movies by seeing what clothes I will wear. It is the script which should appeal to me. And I think I am doing pretty good work and have a lot of films lined up so I don't need to worry about clothes," Sonakshi said.
The actress says she has been praised by her friends and family, who have watched "Lootera" and the best compliment she received was from filmmaker Karan Johar, who called her a revelation in the movie.
"The movie was screened in Mumbai and when Karan came out he was shell-shocked and couldn't believe that he saw the same Sonakshi on-screen. He called my performance a revelation and that made me really happy," she said.
