Looks like the bitter rivalry between producer Firoz Nadiadwala and director Rajkumar Santoshi is far from over.
Recently after Nadiadwala allegedly barged his way into the director's home, threatening to kill him, Santoshi marched to the Juhu police station to file a complaint against him. According to sources, the director has filed a legal notice as well as a public notice in newspapers against Nadiadwala and has apparently sued him for over Rs 10 crore.
Trouble broke out between the two former friends when they went their separate ways over making their film Power. The project that was said to star Bollywood bigwigs was stalled and eventually shelved. Says our source, `Despite a grand mahurat, the film was pushed on backburners.`
Santoshi tells us, `It was important for me to bring out the facts since my reputations was at stake. I had been constantly following up with the producers to start work on the film. I have all the evidence.`
Santoshi says he feels highly irked by the unprofessionalism of Nadiadwala, leading to the director twiddling his thumb at home for almost three years. `After a successful film like Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, I was sitting idle. There has to be accountability for that.` Nadiadwala remained unavailable for comment.
Tripping on three
In his public notice, Santoshi states that his deal with the producer was for three films that included Power, Babajaan and an untitled project.
The director claims he was to be paid Rs 45 crore for the deal but was only paid around Rs 4.25 crore for Power, Rs 91.5 lakh for Babajaan and Rs 25 lakh for the untitled film. He also accuses Nadiadwala of not being able to procure Ajay Devgn's dates despite the director being available for his duties. Santoshi has demanded another Rs 10.24 crore from Nadiadwala for the project.
