But if we are talking dollars and sense, wasn't Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani the Dabangg of Ranbir's career?
After giving us such a blockbuster earlier during the year Ranbir is all set to blow the lid off the boxoffice with his his crass act in Besharam. The film 'shamelessly' tries to explore the Dabangg space relying on the arching antics of a hero belonging to a generation twice removed from Salman Khan.
Ranbir peeing on the sarso fields from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge has already incensed Shah Rukh Khan fans enough to resolve to stay away from Besharam.
But ask Ranbir if he cares.
With a record-breaking 3,600 prints being unleashed this Wednesday Besharam promises to give cinematic kitsch a notorious twist.
Says trade analyst Taran Adarsh, `The expectations from Besharam are humongous. It's Ranbir after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and director Abhinav Kashyap after Dabangg. It can't get any better. Also, it's a massive release, Plus, it's releasing on a holiday with a 5-day weekend. Let's hope the film meets expectations.`
Amod Mehra too feels Besharam has a beshumaar future at the boxoffice. `Despite mixed responses to the songs and promotions Besharam would open to full houses on Wednesday. The main reason is Ranbir Kapoor. He has become a superstar.`
Need we say anything more?
