The nationwide curiosity surrounding the 2008 Aarushi murder case in New Delhi has seen several twists. Yesterday, a special CBI court convicted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar of killing their young daughter and servant Hemraj.
In a bid to mirror real-life, several B-Town folk have already announced films based on the murder case. They were keenly awaiting the verdict to decide what course to take in the film. While some will borrow from real life others will take recourse to cinematic liberties.
The first to hit the screen will be Manish Gupta's Rahasya around March. The film stars Kay Kay Menon, Ashish Vidyarthi, Tisca Chopra and Sakshi Sem.
Gupta says, `I have already shot the film, but I am not giving a verdict through the film. I have merely used a real-life case as raw material to script a movie plot. I am no one to judge anyone or pass a verdict. The judiciary will do that.`
He adds, `I was disturbed and intrigued by a case where a father stood accused of having murdered his only child. The case seemed like a plot right out of Agatha Christie's whodunit. I decided to make a movie, one that empathises with the agony of aggrieved parents and creates suspense while trying to discover who was actually responsible for the crime.`
Among the other filmmakers who announced projects based on the Aarushi case include a film to be produced by Milan Luthria. Meghna Gulzar is also keen to take up the subject. Meanwhile, Karan Kashyap has also announced a film based on the subject. These projects, however, are yet to take off.
