Moving with the times is his mantra and he is constantly imbibing fresh ideas and re-inventing himself to keep pace with the new generation, says noted poet-lyricist Gulzar.

"The new generation is moving too fast. I am trying to walk along with them by imbibing fresh ideas, learning their language," says the Bollywood legend, who has written highly successful lyrics of markedly different moods for films like Paheli, Bunty Aur Babli and Yahaan in 2005.

After the peppy Kajra Re in Bunty Aur Babli rocked the nation, the soulful Poochhe Jo Koi Meri Nishani in Yahaan is again on everyone's lips. But Gulzar does not want to take credit for the success of the songs of Yahaan, composed by Shantanu Moitra of Parineeta fame.

He is all praise for director Shoojit Sarkar. "Yahaan is Shoojit's film. It shows his clear vision. All the credit goes to him for making such a film in this topsy-turvy time. I just gave him what he wanted," says the lyricist, who believes music and story have to gel together for a complete package.

Although films gave him mass recognition, Gulzar personifies poetry. It does not bother him that true admirers of ‘sher-o-shairi' are becoming rare these days. "Poetry comes from your heart. It is not important whether there are enough people to read, understand and admire it," asserts Gulzar, who was in the national capital recently.

His musical masterpieces have just been released by Saregama India Ltd in a special album Mera Kuchh Samaan and he is nowadays occupied with a tele-serial on the works of Rabindranath Tagore. "It will be ready for telecast in Doordrashan national channel by next year," he said.
