She's almost a pro at doing films in her mother tongue... or shall we say, grandmother's tongue.
Suchitra Sen's granddaughter, Raima Sen has already done a cluster of Bengali films, including
Rituparno Ghosh's Chokher Bali. But Rahul Bose is a newcomer to this, his native territory.
After working with Buddhadeb Dasgupta in the highly acclaimed Kaalpurush, Rahul is back in Bong
town in Anuranon (resonance).
The actor is happy with the set-up. "It's a small film. It's got Raima Sen, Rituparno Sengupta and
Rajit Kapur. We're halfway through."
Considering he isn't fluent in his mother tongue, is Rahul happy doing another Bengali film? "The
Bengali here is more literate and urban, than in Buddhadeb Dasgupta's Kaalpurush, where the
language was more lower middle-class," says Rahul.
Chuckles Rahul, "The director's name is Tony Raichowdhary. Though his real name is Anniruddha,
he's known as Tony. I find this Bengali penchant for nicknames quite unfathomable."
Raima seems quite taken with her co-star. "Rahul is a fabulous actor. He's very helpful. He provided
me with many interesting insights into the subject."
Anuranon isn't the only Bengali film that Raima has up for release. "I've just completed Rituparno
Ghosh's Khela. And I'll be starting Anjan Dutta's Bong Connection, with Shayan Munshi, in January."
