Kangna Ranaut had recently revealed about playing Meena Kumari in a Tigmanshu Dhulia-directed biopic. But family members of the late actress have objected to not only Kangna playing 'Bollywood's tragedy queen', but the project all together. For, Meena Kumari's stepson, Tajdar Amrohi, is already making a film on her life.
"The first rights rest with the family and my film has gone on floors. Who will know chhoti ammi better than us and that she and Kamal Amrohi were never divorced? We have lived with her and there are many incidents and anecdotes that only we can better incorporate in the film being directed by Shashilal Nair," says Amrohi.
He feels Kangna is not the ideal choice to play the legendary actress. "She is anything but Meena Kumari. My chhoti ammi was tradition personified and a strong personality. Kangna is completely opposite of her and does not suit the role," he states.
Tigmanshu had announced that his biopic would be adapted from the late journalist Vinod Mehta's biography on Meena Kumari.
Amrohi denies rumours about Manisha Koirala essaying the protagonist's role in his film. "We have three Meena Kumaris as the biopic depicts three stages of her life. I cannot reveal any names now, except the fact that one of them is from the industry. You will also see two Kamal Amrohis," he says, adding that his project is titled 'Meenabakamaal' and will release next year. "It means Meena the extra ordinary, and is also a portmanteau of Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi."
