Kapoor, caught making the unsavoury remarks in a television channel sting operation, had toured South Africa for a series of shows in the late 1980s with music director Bappi Lahiri. At the inaugural show in Durban's Curries Fountain, special arrangements had been made for a physically challenged fan to meet him on stage.
The Bollywood baddie, who was booed as he stumbled drunkenly across the stage, toppled the girl right off her crutches. The tearful fan later said she never wanted to see him again.
Despite repeated jeers, Kapoor insisted on continuing with his slurred speech. This trend occurred at every one of the shows he performed here, with Lahiri later privately apologising to the organisers for the actor's actions. But that was not the end of it.
At another show before hundreds of families, including children, at the Chatsworth Stadium, Kapoor dropped his pants when he launched into a verbal tirade full of expletives against journalists.
Waving his bare behind at the audience, he said that was what he thought of one particular journalist. Kapoor even issued serious threats to the journalist in question if he ever caught "her".
But taking no cue from his growing unpopularity Shakti went on sowing his wild oats in Bollywood. In a sting operation carried out against him by the India TV journalist, he buttresses his point by claiming that actresses Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji slept with director/ producer Yash Johar.
Despite a lot of persuasion from the on-screen baddie, the girl spurned his offer and eventually the India TV team stormed into the room only to see the worse side of Shakti Kapoor.
According to them, after a huge fracas, Shakti profusely apologised for his misdemeanour and went on to justify his despicable act by claiming that such incidents were no big deal in the glamour world.
"The girls come, we f**k them, they go away. That's the way everything goes on," he said.
Today, when caught on tape, Shakti rubbishes the channel's claim and says that the footage has been completely doctored.
Says Kapoor, "If a girl calls me to her hotel room at 11.30 pm, she won't call me to sing bhajans and do puja surely? She must have had something planned in her mind. She had already booked a hotel room there. I never touched her. She opened her shirt and kept on telling me, "Make love to me", which they have conveniently deleted." "Luckily, before anything could happen, I wisened up and realised something was wrong. I thrust her aside and was walking out when I saw the door in the adjoining room slightly ajar. I kicked it open and saw a camera shooting the entire proceedings. I caught them red-handed.
"When I threatened to break their camera, they apologised and said they wouldn't show it. We hugged each other and I left thinking that it was over and done with. They were waiting to see if I would take any legal action all these months. When they saw I didn't, they have aired it."
Rajat Sharma, Chairman of India TV, however claims, "It was Shakti Kapoor on camera saying vulgar things to the reporter. After he realised that he was being taped, he tried to fight with the crew, then threatened them."
