Former heartthrob, but now down-and-out Hrithik Roshan has slashed his price by almost 25 per cent to stay in the race with other stars, especially newcomer Vivek Oberoi, who is being wooed by all and sundry.Karan Johar has announced a project with Vivek, and so has Yash Chopra. That probably leaves Roshan nowhere. That none of his films in the recent past have fared well is old news.
But the debacle of his latest film Mujhse Dosti Karoge, seems to have really worsened matters for the well-toned star.If the grapevine is to be believed, Oberoi was apparently the first choice for Farhan Akhtar`s ext project, Laksha. If Hrithik got the role, it was largely because of his new remuneration.Hrithik admits that he has slashed his price, but says, `It`s got nothing to do with my films not faring well.
In fact, Mujhse Dosti Karoge did quite well. It`s just that I think with the industry going through such downturn, we stars should begin regulating the money we demand from producers.` Now if only other stars are as philanthropic, Bollywood may well see some better days.
